West Allegheny School District serves the communities of North Fayette Township, Findlay Township, and Oakdale Borough. The district is conveniently located 15 miles west of downtown Pittsburgh and just minutes from Pittsburgh International Airport. West Allegheny serves its approximately 3,500 students in three K-5 elementary schools, West Allegheny Middle school, and West Allegheny High School. Donaldson Elementary school is located across the street from Fayette Farms.
A sought-after school district because of its A+ safety ranking from Niche, student access across all grade levels to creativity and innovation programming, and a low student-teacher ratio of 14:1, West Allegheny has not raised property taxes for nine consecutive years. In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum, West Allegheny offers families flexible learning options through the West Allegheny Virtual Academy (WAVA). Online course taught by the district’s highly qualified teachers allow students to take classes remotely or add one or two online courses for enrichment or to accommodate high school scheduling conflicts.
As part of a new Early College in High School Academy collaboration with the Community College of Allegheny County, high school students at West Allegheny have the ability to earn college certificates in cyber security and multimedia game simulation at a reduced tuition rate by the time they graduate from high school.
The district also offers an athletic program with 17 sports from middle school through varsity, and more than 50 ancillary clubs, so that students have many chances to participate in sports and other activities.
